A merchant’s industry classification code is typically assigned a NAICS or MCC code, but it’s not intuitive to identify potential four-digit MCC’s that align with a 2-6-digit NAICS code, until now. TSG has created the NAICS to MCC mapping to address this pain point for both financial institutions and merchant acquirers.
About NAICS, SIC, MCC:
North American industry Classification System (NAICS) – Standard Used by Federal Statistical agencies in classifying, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy. NAICS replaced the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system in 1997. A NAICS to SIC crosswalk can be found at NAICS.com.
Merchant Category Codes (MCC) are four-digit numbers describing a merchant’s primary business activities used by issuers to identify the type of business in which a merchant is engaged.
